*********** 021593A.ENG *********** Country: Japan A news release on the ultimate fate of the YAMATO I, the magnetohydrodynamic superconducting ship now under test evaluation after sea trails. The top speed reached was only 6 knots due to quenching of the superconductivity. This prototype will be put on display at the Museum of Maritime Science in Tokyo in the fall of 1993. When I visited the ship at the Mitsubishi Yards in Kobe last year before the trials, the engineers thought that a second ship would be built after the results of the data from YAMATO I were analyzed. The actual construction was funded by the Ship and Ocean Foundation as part of their ship research effort. ************** END Msg. A.ENG **************
