B, of the program of the 4TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BIOSENSORS held at the The Imperial Queens Park Hotel Bangkok, Thailand 29-31 May 1996. Each daily session started with a Plenary Session followed by special sessions in the afternoon. In general most of the talks and participants were in the bio-medical and bio-chemical fields and the most successful commercial product are glucose monitors for diabetics. However, there certainly was a trend to develop other medical monitors for example for urea monitoring in dialysiss, and for various ion and elemental monitors useful both in medicine and in environmental work. In environmental monitors the Japanese are taking the lead, which partially may be due to new laws requiring data from dischargers, which only can be obtained realistically by electrodes in the stream. Future messages will give selected abstracts pertaining to marine and environmental needs plus those from researchers in East Asia. This field is just starting to see applied results and it is the coming together of both electronic developments in miniaturization and biochemical advances pushed by the various DNA projects. ************** End Msg.
