The diagram based on Taylor and McLennan (1985) uses the concentrations of these elements in the upper continental crust (UC), bulk continental crust, and oceanic crust as end-members to determine provenance. Note that the field of the samples extends far beyond that of the end-members. As the discussion notes, it appears that Co is not immobile under conditions of sedimentation.
